Sarsfields of Cork lift the AIB Cup
Sadly for host club Kilmacud Crokes they never really got into the game in the final of the AIB-sponsored All-Ireland Hurling Sevens competition at a sunny Stillorgan this evening. Their opponents, Sarsfields of Cork, opened the game in a most impressive manner and seemed incapable of missing no matter what distance they were shooting from. By half-time the game as a contest was over with Crokes having registered a mere 4 points as against Sarsfields’ tally of 3 goals and 8 points.
Things didn’t get much better for the Dubliners in the second half although they did manage to up their scoring rate. Sarsfields took things a little easier and the scoreboard at the finish read Sarsfields 4-15 Kilmacud Crokes 3-05.
Sarsfields thus become the eighth club to claim the cup for a second time joining such illustrious names as Patrickswell (Limerick), Midleton (Cork), Rathnure (Wexford), Portumna and Kiltormer (both Galway), Borris Illeigh and Mullinahone (both Tipperary).
All that remains now is for the lengthy discussions about tomorrow’s All-Ireland final to be continued in the comfort of the clubhouse bar, an activity for which it is obligatory to have a glass in one’s hand throughout proceedings.
