Details of the 9th Annual Race Day in Punchestown -Tuesday 24th April 2012

Our annual Punchestown race day has proven to be an excellent event either for Corporate Entertainment or indeed entertaining staff, colleagues, friends or family.  In recent years it has been a significant contributor in the funding effort for Kilmacud Crokes hurling and for your support in that may I thank you.

Hurling continued to prosper very strongly in 2011.  On the county scene, the Dublin hurlers had a very successful season.  A 12 point victory over Kilkenny saw them crowned National League Champions and lift the Dr Croke Cup, a first national title for Dublin Hurling since 1939.  2011 also saw Dublin reach the Leinster Hurling Final before eventually bowing out very bravely from the Championship to Tipperary in a gripping All Ireland semi-final.

The development of hurling in Kilmacud Crokes is important and it continues to prosper.  It is a common sight in these times to see young hurlers of all ages on the move around our local community with a hurley in hand.  However, the future development of hurling in the club is dependent on adequate funding.

2011 showed evidence of continued progress and success as follows:

  • Senior Team – Division 1 Hurling League Champions (first time since 1996)
  • Intermediate Team – Championship and League winners
  • Junior Team -  Championship Finalists
  • U21 – County Finalists (not yet played)
  • Minor Team – Crowned county champions in 2011 for third  year in a row
  • U15 – Championship Finalists
  • U14 – Championship and League winners
  • Other under age / Nursery teams – vibrant development program at under age levels

On Tuesday 24th April, we will host our 9th annual race day, again on the opening and arguably the best day of the Punchestown National Hunt Festival, an excellent race day featuring three Grade 1 races.  It is also on an ideal date this year sitting nicely between Easter and the May bank holiday weekend and is expected to attract the best Irish and British trained horses following their exertions at the Cheltenham Festival in March.  Big Zeb & Sizing Europe are set to go head to head again in the day’s feature race, the Boylesports Champion Chase.

Our 2011 event was a big success. We welcomed our special guests, Irish cricket star Kevin O’Brien, Waterford hurling legend Ken McGrath and indeed our own Kilmacud Crokes stars Niall Corcoran, Ryan O’Dwyer and Barry O’Rourke along with the Dr Croke Cup they had won for Dublin only two days earlier.

For 2012, we have again invited some very special guests and are confident you and your guests will have a very enjoyable and memorable day.  The day finishes with a very sociable and entertaining evening for all back in the clubhouse which we hope you will be able to attend.
To take a table please complete the attached Booking Form and return it to myself or any member of the organising work group below. If you cannot commit to a full table, we can facilitate partial table bookings.

Yours,

Brendan Sweeney
