JJ Bunyan on Hurley Making

bunyan3.JPGJames Bunyan, from Duntaheen, Fermoy, County Cork, has undertaken some research into the art and background of hurley-making. James, who is a local historian and contributor of articles to Ballydonoghue Parish Magazine, has kindly provided a number of articles and photos for publication on the website (see links below).

Of the "Alarm Bells ringing.." article, James says: "The article was inspired by a visit to the Sar Caman Teo hurley making enterprise, which is part of the Forestry Enterprises network of  commercial operations in Dundrum, Co. Tipperary .  I visited Forestry Services to see the nuts and bolts of filling paper sacks of firewood with hurley off cuts and small diameter blocks as direct outcome of meeting Peter Alley on a forestry related exhibition stand at the National and World Ploughing Championships in Tullow, Co. Carlow.
