Match report for Challenge against Naomh Eanna, Gorey, Co. Wexford

Team 1: David Hyland, Thomas Doran, Luke O'Gorman, Sean O'Hurley, Paul Dalton, Stephen McMahon, Keelan Murphy, Conan McSweeney, Dan Murphy, Joe Broderick
Score: KC 1-1 v Nh E 2-0

On a beautiful day for hurling we travelled to Gorey for a full on challenge against Naomh Eanna. Full rules were the order of the day and the boys all tore into the game with enthusiasm. Scores were hard to come by and it wasn't until the second half that Crokes goaled to register the first score. There was some excellent skills on display of lifting, striking and blocking from both teams with the ball moving up and down the pitch with both goalies involved in the action. At half time the teams were level at no score thanks to some excellent goalkeeping from both keepers. The second half continued much as the first but by now a strong breeze had blown up in favour of the home team. Despite this crokes managed to record the first score of the game and soon followed this with a point. Nh Eanna refused to give in however and soon reduced the margin with a goal of their own. With almost the last puck of the game the Gorey boys were able to register their second goal to emerge narrowly victorius.
A great competitive display from both teams that was followed by a generous supply of tea & sandwiches for the adults and sausages & chips for the boys. We look forward to welcoming the Wexford boys back to Dublin in the months to come.

Team 2: Sean Bradley , Oisin Tiernan , Tom Walsh , Shane Gallagher ,Colm Lyndon , Andrew Dillon ,Cian Browne ,Ruari Walsh, Tom Maher, Sean Mc Intyre , Callum Mc Clean

Score: KC 3-0 v Nh E 0-0

On a perfect day for hurling and on a perfect sod for good hurling we played Gorey on their pitch. This was a very good game of hurling from the start, with good direct hurling the order of the day. We had the assistance of four young hurlers from the under eights, who all played very well and held their own against a good Gorey team. The exchanges were robust and skillfull from the start, with no quarter being given or sought. There was also plenty of goalmouth action and excitement for the spectators to enjoy. There was very little between the teams and the three goal margin probably flatters Crokes, but we won't argue about it! After the match we were shown great hospitality by the Gorey people and look forward to renewing our acquaintance in the near future.

This week's Super Scores features all the best action from the All-Ireland Championship Hurling Semi-Final from Cork and Tipperary last weekend - goals from Séamus Callanan and Rob O'Shea, and points from Shane McGrath, Anthony Nash and Conor Lehane.

Tuesday 19th August, 2014

There was just one big game in Croke Park over the weekend - Sunday's All-Ireland hurling semi-final - but there were nonetheless plenty of stand-out individual performances, especially in blue and gold.

Eamon O'Shea says Tipperary were determined to be the most changed side in championship 2014, as they now begin preparations for an All-Ireland final against Kilkenny.
